Making the Most Out of Your Holiday Trip

December 6th, 2009

People spend the entire year earning money and saving a certain percentage of that so that they can go to some overseas destination along with the other members of their family. In fact there is nothing better to visit a country with a tropical climate during the winter holidays. Not only does the traveler have the option to get away from the biting cold, they also get an opportunity to explore sights and scenery that are not viewable in their country. It is a fact that most people book their flight tickets and hotel rooms well in advance. Thanks to the internet, one can now undertake these bookings from the relative comfort of their home.

Most people opt in for package tours. In such options a tourist agency takes over the task of taking the tourists to popular destinations of the country the tourists are visiting. However, there is a downside to such package tours. Generally the guides appointed by the tourist agency will take along the tourist to only well known and popular tourist spots. You can be rest assured that there are many other places of interest that these guides might not themselves know about. The best persons to guide you to such places are the citizens of the city you are visiting.

Getting acquainted with someone from an overseas country is not so tough nowadays. There are a number of social network sites on the net. Become a member of one of the popular ones and befriend someone who resides in the city you are planning to visit. It is suggested that you get in touch with them and befriend them at least a couple of months prior to your visit date. This provides you with the time to get to know each other better. However, you should not make yourself a burden on them.

You should book rooms in a hotel for residing purposes. The help from your friend should only be taken when it is time to tour the city. You can be rest assured that your friend will be able to show you many places which are not even mentioned in the tourist guide. Every city has its own food joints and coffee shops. There are many shops that sell local handicrafts at a discounted price. These are generally not covered by the tourist guide. The tourist guide will only mention about landmarks that are situated within their travel route. Even small and quaint shops that are in the route of the tourist bus are not covered in detail.

What about the snack corner that is a few steps away from your home? They make one of the most delicious cakes in town… yet they find no mention in the tourist map of your city. It is the same with overseas destinations too. Ensure that you have a local friend to guide you when you next visit any city. Not only will they take you to the popular tourist spots, they will also take you to places that are even more picturesque, yet find no mention in the tourist guide.
