What If You Are an Anxious Flyer?
Traveling by air is the fastest and sometimes the sole alternative to get somewhere but most people I know dread it especially flights that lasts for long periods. If you are like them, follow these few steps to make your flying experience less discomforting.
Nausea can be promoted by take offs, landings and turbulence while flying on an airplane. If you easily get sick, get seats that are over the wings as they are the most stable ones. Also, focus on still objects until the nausea is gone.
Although I like flying, I dislike getting jet lagged after the flight – I’ll waste a lot of time recovering from it. As often as I can, I try switching to my destination’s time once I get on board as to minimize the weariness by sleeping or resting according to the time.
Try avoiding snacking too much and unnecessarily when you are flying. Foods are harder to digest when you limit your activities, thus can sometimes causing you discomfort during the flight. The air is dry in the cabin so drink a lot of water and no alcohol as it dehydrates you even further.
When you’re traveling for a long stretch of time, move around the cabin regularly and do some stretching exercises in your seat. This will reduce stiffness from staying immobile for too long.
Before traveling, seek advice from your doctor in regards with your health. You may not be fit for air travel and this may not be good. For example, even though the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is small, those with preexisting conditions have higher risk of it when they travel by air.
